Sitan Chen has just graduated from Northview High School and has been admitted to the top five universities in the United States, including Harvard, MIT, Yale, Princeton, and Stanford Universities. At the same time because of his outstanding accomplishment in piano, he has also been admitted to New England Conservatory. Sitan plans to attend Harvard in the fall.
Sitan Chen was ranked first among almost 500 graduating seniors at Northview High School year. He is the only one in history to have won top awards at the national level of the Siemens Competition in Math, Science, and Technology two years in a row (2010, 2011), as well as the 2012 Intel Science Talent Search Competition. In March this year, he was received by President Obama at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, and just a few weeks ago, he was featured in Business Insider’s "Most Impressive High School Kids Graduating this Year."
At the same time, Sitan has also had been awarded numerous accolades in music. Having placed in first in six separate international piano competitions, he has been invited to perform at New York's famous Carnegie Hall just as many times.
Upon winning first place in the International Concerto Competition for Piano, Strings, and Winds (NYC) in March 2011, he was invited to Russia to perform the Grieg Piano Concerto with the Kostroma Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Pavel Gershtein.
In November 2011, when he again appeared on the stage of Carnegie Hall in a joint recital in honor of the famous pianist-composer Franz Liszt, playing alongside professional pianists hailing from the likes of Juilliard and Moscow Conservatory, the concert organizers decided to award the Best Performance of Liszt award among all the performers to Sitan.
China Central Television (CCTV) has been particularly interested in Sitan’s story and broadcasted his story in prime time on CCTV-13 (News Channel) in May. A newscrew from CCTV will again come on scene to film the recital, this time as part of a feature on Sitan on CCTV-4 (International Channel) to be broadcasted later in the fall.
As such, he would like to give this special concert before he goes on to college, to show his appreciation to the community that has helped foster his growth both as a student and as a person, and it would mean the world to him for all of you to be there.
